Kilmarnock prisoner dies on Christmas Day as jail launches probe

An inmate at Kilmarnock prison has died on Christmas day, jail bosses have confirmed.

Paul Gorman passed away on December 25 while serving a sentence at HMP Kilmarnock.

The 52-year-old was caged at Bowhouse after being convicted at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in 2019.

Police have been informed and the circumstances of his death will be examined at a Fatal Accident Inquiry at a later date.

A statement from the Scottish Prison Service said: “Paul Gorman, 52, a prisoner from HMP Kilmarnock has died on December 25, 2021.

“He was remanded at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in 2019. Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.”
