Kilmarnock police launch probe after man was slashed in town centre

Police have launched a probe after a man was slashed in Kilmarnock town centre.

A 38-year-old man was taken to hospital after the Saturday night incident on Portland Street which was described as a “serious assault” by police.

Officers are now appealing for information from any witnesses that were present near the incident on Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said: “At around 5.45pm on Saturday, January 4, officers were called to a report of a 38-year-old man having been seriously assaulted on Portland Street, Kilmarnock.

“He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital to be treated for his injuries before being released.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information should contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 2619 of Saturday 4 January 2020.”
