Kilmarnock playing budget won't be slashed and board want Tommy Wright to stay on

Kilmarnock's board of directors have today apologised to supporters following the club's relegation.

Billy Bowie, Phyllis McLeish and Cathy Jamieson fronted up on Killie TV and addressed the situation and revealed their plans to bounce back from the Championship.

They said they feel Tommy Wright is the man to take the club forward and that the playing budget won't be slashed as they enter the Championship next season.

Here's what the board had to say:

Billy Bowie

"In the moment I am really gutted, I am gutted for the fans as well.

"To be honest I want to apologise to the fans for our performance this year getting us into the position we’re in.

"I am stuck for words, it has been a tough season for all of us, but we are going to bounce back.

"At the end of the day, we have went through the testing and haemorrhaged a lot of money, but we are going to keep it going."

Phyllis McLeish

"We have been looking down the barrel of a gun for more than a couple of weeks.

"We have been speaking about what’s going to happen, and we decided that whatever happened we are going to stick with the player budget, there won’t be a reduction.

"There will be an impact on other areas of the club, our turnover is going to go down, we have to manage that and we will manage that.

"We want the stay in the Championship to be as brief as possible, we want to give Tommy and the team he’s going to build every chance to make it a brief sojourn in the Championship.

"It has been a miserable season for many factors, we have had Covid, the way we were treated during Covid which wasn’t great.

"I don’t think you can underestimate the impact that had on everyone at the club.

"But it’s football, things happen, we need to move forward and we are, we are committed to doing that.

"This was not a good night, but we will rally round, we will do our best and in the transfer window we will do our best.

"We are united in that we feel we have the right manager, we have confidence in him.

"He came in a bit too late, that’s not Tommy’s fault, but we do have the right manager now, we will rebuild."

"First and foremost I am a supporter, like the rest of the fans I am gutted, it wasn’t good enough. We have to rebound and we have to bounce back.

"We need the fans to do that, it was great to have some back in the stadium and I am just sorry it wasn’t a better performance for them.

"We need the fans, we need the Killie Trust, we need all of the supporters to come together and help us rebuild the team and make sure that our stay in the Championship is as brief as possible.

"I think it’s important we have confidence in the manager, he knows what he wants to do, he has a vision for the way forward.

"As a board we need to back him, we also need to work with the fans to rebuild."
