Kilmarnock Pizza Hut closes after 25 years in the town

Kilmarnock's Pizza Hut has closed its doors for the final time.

The restaurant, based at Glencairn Retail Park, officially closed last Saturday.

The Kilmarnock Standard told you in January that the once popular eaterie was to shut down for good after 25 years.

A total of 17 staff were employed at the Kilmarnock restaurant.

On Monday, the venue was in complete darkness with fixtures and fittings still in place.

A typed piece of paper in the door simply read: "Closed".

Last month, a worker at the restaurant told how some colleagues were left in tears when the news was broken to them.

The staff member, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “Quite a lot of people were upset about it and one of my colleagues was crying.

“There’s three people that have worked there for around 20 years.

“I was quite upset because it’s a really good job for its flexibility.”

The blow was announced to heartbroken staff on Thursday, January 2 by the firm’s area manager.

The worker added: “We were told we were having a meeting on January 2 and the area manager was there and she told us that we are shutting down.

“They said we’ll be shutting on February 10 so that should give us enough time to sort something out. They offered to relocate people too.

“But Ayr has just hired and Silverburn have just hired too so I can’t see very many people being offered jobs.

“The area manager normally doesn’t come down to meetings.”
