James Fowler insists it’s vital that Kilmarnock get their home form back on track.
The head of football operations will be in the dugout for the Ayrshire side’s clash against Morton tonight – and he’s desperate to pick up their first Rugby Park win since October.
Fowler will lead the team as the Killie board commence their interviews for the managerial vacancy this week.
And Morton will be led by Dougie Imrie who takes control of his first match since taking over as boss.
Fowler said: “We are hoping to get the home form back on track. We’d like to have a bigger crowd to cheer us on but unfortunately that’s not the case.
“I think the boys can take confidence from the Hamilton performance [3-2 win], we just need to tidy up a few things ahead of the game and we will do that.
“It will be their first game under the new manager so the players will be right up for it trying to impress him.
“So we need to make sure we are ready for that. If we can do what we are good at I am sure we can get a result.”
Killie keeper Sam Walker added: “The home form has been disappointing, we can’t hide behind anything, it has been poor.
“It’s the reason why we aren’t top of the league arguably.
“But we still have half the season left, there are plenty of games to go so we have a chance to turn that round.
“We are still within touching distance of the top teams, other teams have shown if you go on a run you can catch the rest.
“We did it ourselves earlier this season, we believe we are capable of it, it’s just transferring it on to the pitch."
He added: “Sunday wasn’t just about three points, it was about putting on a good performance, and I felt we did that.
“It’s about taking that forward into the Morton game, the festive period is always busy.
“It’s just a shame it can’t be in front of more fans, but I am sure the 500 Killie that are there will cheer us on loud and proud, and will us on to another three points."
