Kilmarnock mum dies suddenly after suffering brain haemorrhage at home

Touching tributes have been paid to a Kilmarnock mum who died suddenly last week.

Karen Adair died from a brain haemorrhage last Tuesday – less than two weeks after celebrating her 41st birthday.

Now the tragic barber’s life will be marked with a poignant balloon release and minute’s applause as Kilmarnock host Rangers at Rugby Park later this month.

Organised by Karen’s 16-year-old son Lewis, the fitting tribute celebrates her love for Rangers and her son’s love for Kilmarnock.

Emma Laird told the Standard that Karen, who was her cousin, was set to be the maid of honour at her wedding in 2021.

Emma said that Karen had no idea that she was ill.

“She died from a brain haemorrhage,” Emma told the Standard.

“She collapsed at her home and was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where she was put on life support. But, sadly, there was nothing else they could do. She had no clue.

“She was my forever friend, the life of the party. She could give me the best advice ever and never ever let me down.

“She was so happy all the time, bubbly and was just so loyal and trustworthy.

“She was going to me the maid of honour at my wedding in 2021.”

Emma said that Karen absolutely loved football, walking and spending time with her son Lewis and mum Edith.

Speaking about the tribute organised in her honour, Emma said: “She would have loved it.

“She was Rangers mad and her son is a Kilmarnock fan so that’s why it is on May 19 when they are both playing. Lewis wanted to arrange the balloon release as well.”

Emma has said that anyone is welcome to join in the memorial events before the final game of the season.

“Anyone that wants to join us can just bring a balloon on the day,” she added. “We will let them off before the match.

“We’ll be stood between the East and the Moffat stand turnstiles.

“And then everyone will be joining in a minute’s applause on the 41st minute of the match.”
