Kilmarnock midfielder Gary Dicker admits it would be 'honour' to replace Kris Boyd as captain

Gary Dicker admits it would be an “honour” to be named Kilmarnock captain.

The Irish midfielder stepped in for Kris Boyd last season when the veteran striker was sidelined, and he seems the natural replacement as skipper.

The 32-year-old has yet to speak with Angelo Alessio about being captain, but he insists he has learned plenty about the role from Boyd.

He said: “I haven’t spoke to the manager yet, but if I am captain I would be happy.

“We have got a good dressing room, and a great bunch of lads, so it would be an honour to be the club’s captain.

“Last year was the same when I stepped in for Boyd, I would learn bits off of him.

“As much as he wasn’t playing as much as he would have liked he was great to have around.

“He is going to be a big miss this year, I don’t think people realise how good he is and how good a lad he is.

“He has been massively missed already."
