Kilmarnock midfielder explains why he left club for Championship loan spell

Iain Wilson has revealed he is embracing a loan spell in the Championship because he didn't want to be stuck on the sidelines at Kilmarnock.

The Rugby Park midfielder – who is out of contract at the end of the season – joined Queen of the South on deadline day.

He spent the second half of last term at Palmerston, with the Doonhamers staying up after beating Raith Rovers in the Championship play-off final.

Wilson made his second debut for Queens on Saturday but was on the losing side as Dunfermline Athletic clinched a late 3-2 victory.

However, he is looking forward to the prospect of regular first-team football having just made three starts for Killie this season as he reflected on the Doonhamers' defeat.

He said: “I was quite keen to come back. If I wasn’t going to be getting a chance, then there was no point sitting wasting my time there.

“It was about getting back out and enjoying my football again. I’m 21 now and I think it is time for me to kick on again.

“I thought we played well and dominated the game but we have lost three poor goals and it was my guy for the second. Every goal was avoidable.

“I enjoyed it here last season but obviously we got into a bad run. I think we just need to take it a game at a time and focus on getting a positive result next week.”

On-loan Kilmarnock winger Dom Thomas starred for Dunfermline in Dumfries as he set up two goals with the Pars climbing to fourth place in the table.
