Kilmarnock men engage in daytime brawl in town centre

Two men have appeared in the dock after being caught in a brawl at Kilmarnock Cross.

Lee Rodgerson, 29, and William Christie, 39, both pleaded guilty to behaving in a disorderly manner and committing a breach of the peace at the Cross on King Street Kilmarnock on August 6.

The two men punched each other and were found by police rolling around on the ground.

Rodgerson, of Hill Street, Kilmarnock appeared from custody alongside co-accused Christie, of Kirktonholm Place.

The fiscal depute told the court: “Two police officers were on foot patrol in Kilmarnock town centre around 5pm when there attention was drawn to two males arguing at the Cross.

“They observed both accused to be engaged in a stand-up fight, both punching each other to the face.

“Police officers made their way over, by that point both accused were rolling around on the ground.

“Both were arrested and cautioned and charged.”

The court heard that the men were not known to each other prior to the incident.

Rodgerson’s defending agent attempted to have his client granted bail but the motion was refused by Sheriff Michael Hanlon.

Sheriff Hanlon said: “Given your record and also the fact that this offence took place just six days after bail had been granted to you, the motion for bail on this matter is refused.”

Sentencing for both men was deferred until next month.
