Kilmarnock manager hunt moves forward as Rugby Park chiefs draw up six-man shortlist

Kilmarnock have whittled their search for a new manager down to six candidates as they prepare to begin interviews to find Steve Clarke 's successor.

The Rugby Park club had over 60 applications for the job, according to stv , and will begin the interview process next week.

Clarke left to take over as Scotland manager last week after a hugely successful 18 months spell in charge in which he took the club from the bottom of the Premiership all the way to Europe.

Kilmarnock also finished with a record points tally of 67 as they pipped Aberdeen for third place behind champions Celtic and Rangers.

Rugby Park chiefs led by major shareholder Billy Bowie held a board meeting on Thursday and drew up the shortlist of six candidates.

Names in the frame include Neil McCann , Gary Holt, Clarke's assistant Alex Dyer, Gary Rowett and former Rangers boss Ally McCoist, who admitted last week his old side Killie is one of the few clubs he would consider managing in Scotland.

Bowie said earlier this week he was looking for a "highly experienced" boss to replace Clarke. He added he'd been "very encouraged" by the calibre of those applying.

Killie enter the Europa League at the first qualifying round stage.

The first match is scheduled for July 11 meaning a new boss will have limited time to get his ideas across.
