Kilmarnock man sent death threats to council worker

A 38-year-old man admitted sending death threats to a council worker.

Bryan Houston, of Kirktonholm Place, admitted sending letters that contained abusive remarks and threats of violence to the woman’s place of work in November.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard the woman is a support worker at the North West area centre and has supported Houston for the last three years.

On November 28, the woman was working when Houston attended for an appointment.

He requested extra money for Christmas but he was told he had spent it and was not due any more.

Unhappy at this, Houston left the meeting. On his way out he left a letter at reception, addressed to the woman. In the letter he insulted her and said: “Hurry up and f*****g die.”

Police were called and spoke to the woman the next day.

But they returned again on November 30 because Houston was in the centre and had passed on another letter – this one contained threats, including: “Go to f**k, I’m putting you in a wooden box.”

“The content of the second letter causes me some concern,” said Sheriff Michael Hanlon.

Houston’s defending agent said he had never been in trouble before and that he is a “well-known character in Kilmarnock”.

Houston is a Kilmarnock FC season ticket holder and his previous male support worker ensured that his finances allowed him to go to both home and away games.

The agent said the female worker felt it was not necessary to go to away matches and cut these to save him money.

Sheriff Hanlon called for background reports and Houston will be sentenced on April 16.
