Kilmarnock man says he's ashamed of himself after behaving aggressively towards his ex-partner

A Kilmarnock man narrowly avoided jail after behaving aggressively towards his ex-partner and another woman and assaulting a police officer.

David Mason appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and told Sheriff Alastair Watson: “I’m ashamed of myself.”

The 51-year-old pled guilty to behaving aggressively towards his ex-partner and another woman by repeatedly shouting, swearing, making offensive remarks and assaulting the second woman by attempting to punch her on the head at an address in Kilmarnock Road, Crosshouse, on June 1.

Mason, of Tourhill Road, also admitted assaulting a police constable on the same date by attempting to headbutt him.

His lawyer told the court: “He regrets his actions but has no recollection.

“He is taking full responsibility. These actions seem to be out of character, albeit there was one other report to the police.”

Mason told the sheriff: “I’m ashamed of myself”

Sheriff Watson replied: “Well that’s good. Offences of this nature merit custodial sentences.”

Mason was sentenced to 12 months of supervision and ordered to do 90 hours of unpaid work within three months.
