Kilmarnock man jailed after admitting series of town centre shoplifting offences

A Kilmarnock man has been sent to jail after admitting a series of shoplifting offences in the town centre.

James Orr will serve 42 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to theft at Smyths Toys and Next on Queen’s Drive and Boots.

Orr, of Wallacehill Road, stole a number of items with a value amounting to over £500 between October and March.

The 44-year-old admitted the offences when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

His defence agent Gillian Swanney told Sheriff Michael Hanlon: “He is very realistic about how you will deal with these matters.

“He is keen that when he is released from custody it will be a clean slate for him.”

Orr, who appeared in the dock from custody, admitted stealing toys from Symth, cushions and candles from Next and skincare products worth £250 from Boots.

He also pled guilty to failing to appear for a scheduled court date.
