Kilmarnock man electronically tagged after trying to headbutt police

A man who threatened police during a brawl in Kilmarnock town centre has been electronically tagged.

Christopher Campbell called a police officer a “typical woman” and told officers they would “see what happens” if he ever saw them in Kilmarnock without their uniforms.

The 33-year-old previously admitted the offences when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

He pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on August 8 on St Andrew’s Street.

The incidents occurred after Campbell accused workers at a nearby hostel, where he resides, of stealing his mobile phone.

When asked to leave Campbell responded: “I’m no f*****g going” and, when told police would be called, he threatened: “If I get lifted I will wait for you outside and I will get to you.”

He began kicking the door and windows before police arrived and found him outside the building.

The court heard how he “immediately became aggressive” and started shouting and swearing at the officers.

The fiscal depute said: “He began pointing at police calling one of the police officers a “typical woman” and told her to “shut the f*** up”.

“He was handcuffed and he continued his abuse and was placed in the rear of a police vehicle when he began to kick at the rear passenger window.

“He was taken to Kilmarnock police office.”

Arriving at the station, Campbell attempted to headbutt one officer shouted “baldy b*****d” and “ginger b*****d”.

He also referred to the female officer as a “cow” and threatened: “You better hope I do not see you outside within Kilmarnock without your uniform on, we will see what happens”.

Campbell’s defending agent told the court: “This was behaviour with a background of being under the influence of alcohol.

“That’s been a problem for him for the better part of this year.”

He was placed on a restriction of liberty order for 12 weeks.
