Kilmarnock make Portsmouth defender their fifth signing of the summer

Kilmarnock have made a fifth new signing ahead of next week's SPFL Premiership kick-off.

Defender Brandon Haunstrup has signed a two-year deal at Rugby Park after leaving English League One side Portsmouth.

Boss Alex Dyer has been busy in the transfer market as he shapes his squad for the season opener at Hibernian on Saturday, August 1 and a new goalkeeper is likely to be the manager's next target.

Haunstrup follows in the footsteps of fellow defenders Aaron McGowan and Zeno Rossi; midfielder Mitch Pinnock and striker Danny Whitehall in putting pen to paper at Killie.

The 23-year-old told Kilmarnock's website: “The move has been in the pipeline for a little while and I couldn’t wait to get up here and I’m delighted it is all sorted.

“As a player, I’m energetic and like getting forward and I’m happy playing left-back or as a wing-back.

“The manager, coaching staff and players all seem great and I can’t wait to get started.”

Haunstrup made over 50 appearances for Pompey and scored one goal which came in a 2-1 FA Cup victory over English National League side Harrogate Town last season.
