Kilmarnock launch Kirk Broadfoot and Rory McKenzie red card appeals

Kilmarnock have launched appeals against red cards shown to Rory McKenzie and Kirk Broadfoot in Saturday's defeat to Aberdeen.

Steve Clarke was left raging after the pair were sent off, with Stuart Findlay also shown dismissed during the 1-0 loss.

Findlay's was for two yellow cards so no appeal could be lodged but Broadfoot and McKenzie were shown straight reds.

Former Rangers star Broadfoot was the first off after a lunging tackle on Dons goalkeeper Joe Lewis while McKenzie's came following an off-the-ball incident with Dominic Ball.

Both players will have their appeal heard on Thursday and could then be available for Saturday's clash with Celtic.

Broadfoot faces a three-game ban due to another red card earlier this season if he doesn't win his appeal, which means he would also miss games against Hearts and Hibs.

McKenzie would miss the trip to Parkhead and then the game against Hearts at Tynecastle.

Kilmarnock boss Clarke is still waiting to find out if he will be punished for his post-match comments on referee Steven McLean.

After the game, he said: "I went over and congratulated him (McLean) and told him it was the worst performance I had ever seen in my career - and it is a long career.

Steve Clarke could have blown Scotland chances with 'over the line' ref rant claims former whistler

"He lost control of the game in the first half. He actually lost control of a professional football match.

"When we lost 2-1 to Hearts earlier in the season I mentioned the referee that night and it was Steven as well.

"And he didn't control that game properly either.

"I feel a little bit sorry for him. People tell me historically that he has never been particularly kind to Kilmarnock.

"I think he feels the pressure of the fact that his father played so many games here. I really do.

"I have mentioned it a couple of times privately but publicly I am saying now, I think it would be better for Steven and Kilmarnock if Steven doesn't referee any more games for us. Quite simple.

"There are loads of referees around that can cover.

"It is a big family connection. Stuart McLean was a top, top player here. I remember coming to watch him.

"A good right-back, not quite as good as me but decent! He played over 400 games for the club.

"And I feel that is a big enough connection - and it is better for Steven."
