Kilmarnock forward Rory McKenzie admits trophy win would be cherry on cake for career

Rory McKenzie admits the only thing missing from his time at Kilmarnock is a trophy.

The 25-year-old is the Rugby Park side’s longest-serving player, with his debut coming in 2011.

But he missed out on a 2012 League Cup winner’s medal as he was on loan to Brechin City.

The Ayrshire men were cruelly denied a trip to Hampden in 2018 when Aberdeen beat them on penalties in the Scottish Cup quarter-final.

Now McKenzie is desperate to add a trophy to his Killie career.

His side take on Hamilton this weekend with a place in the Betfred Cup quarter-final at stake.

He said: “I’ve not had that experience, I was out on loan last time we won a cup.

“It would be nice getting a trip to Hampden, it’s probably the one thing that’s missing from my time here.

“We nearly got there a couple of years ago, so yes, that would be a nice way to end next season.

“A cup run or European run would be great for the club — and the town.

“The town was jumping in 2012 when we won the cup, but I think to win one now would be even bigger.

“More people are following the club and perhaps interested because we have been doing so well on the park.

“If we were to do something like that it would be absolutely massive, that’s for sure.”
