Kilmarnock Football Club's social media content ranked among the best in UK

Kilmarnock Football Club's social media content has been ranked among the best in the UK.

The Ayrshire side sit 10th out of all football clubs in the UK according to a Red Hot Penny (RHP) Social Scoreboard report.

The report covered the top 10 clubs from the English football Premier League; Scottish Premiership; Rugby Premiership; Rugby Super League; Pro14 Rugby; County Cricket; British Basketball League and the Elite League Ice Hockey.

To determine which clubs would be crowned Social Scorecard champions, they compared clubs and also looked at how each sport compared against one another.

Looking at follower numbers, average post engagements (APE) and overall engagement rate (ER) across the three platforms, they were able to score and then rank each club.

And RHP also included a unique measure for this Sports Social Scorecard - followers per seat (FPS).

This looks at total follower numbers across all platforms and stadium/venue capacity to see how many times each club could fill a physical seat with an online follower.

Killie rank as 15th in the UK for the overall score category, with Somerset's County Cricket team topping the charts.

And the Ayrshire side are the 10th football team in the list, and third from the Scottish Premiership - behind Celtic and Rangers.

But Killie sit ahead of footballing giants Manchester United, who are 26th in the list.

Killie top the charts in the Average Engagement Rate (AER) category, with an AER score of 7.29 per cent, meaning they are ranked the best in the UK.

It's impressive going considering Killie lie in 64th place in terms of follower count for the top 10 teams across the leagues.

Kilmarnock's Facebook is ranked as the 10th best in the UK, ahead of the likes of Manchester City, Celtic, Rangers, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

And the Twitter is even better, weighing in as the second best in the UK - beaten only by Salford in the Rugby Super League.

Club Director Cathy Jamieson was delighted by the news.

Kilmarnock v Hibernian: Every word from Steve Clarke's press conference

She said: "We have been working really hard to improve communication with our fans and social media is an essential part of this.

"As well as regular updates going out from the cub, all three Directors have engaged with fans on various platforms and I believe that this has made a huge difference.

"We have had some great content and contributions from players, letting fans see their personalities as well as their playing skills, which has gone down really well.

"We are looking to continually improve our output and with Killie TV now also on the go we can reach more fans on a regular basis.

"We have had huge support from The Killie Trust and supporters groups to spread the word and fans seem to have really enjoyed engaging with it.

"So we are delighted to have our great support recognised as well as success on the pitch led by Steve Clarke and Alex Dyer.”
