Kilmarnock flooding causes devastation with homes evacuated and streets left without power

Multiple homes have been evacuated in Kilmarnock after floods ravaged the town yesterday.

Seven streets are still without power today after heavy rain devastated the town on Sunday evening.

East Ayrhsire Council are now saying that every effort is being made to support residents affected by the incident.

Updating the public on the situation, the local authority said that a rest centre has been established with free hot food and drink.

What we know so far

• Flash flooding has affected the Shortlees area of Kilmarnock.

• Council and emergency services on site from 8pm Sunday, July 28.

• Water pump installed and ditches and gullies have been cleared.

• 13 homes have been evacuated and we’re working with families to find suitable alternatives.

• Skips provided to assist with clearing flood damaged properties.

• Storage options arranged for evacuated households.

• 7 streets in the Riccarton/Bellfield area are still without power.

• Scottish Power hope to restore power to all areas later today.

• Rest centre established and free hot food and drinks available from Shortlees Community Centre.

• Support available for all affected households, families and vulnerable residents in the area.

• CVO assisting with community visits and food provision.

• Enhanced security arranged with the community and for vacated properties
