Kilmarnock FC's greatest ever kit – as voted for by the fans

Choosing your favourite football kit is one of the toughest things you can do.

Do you go for design or do the memories behind a kit mean more?

Kilmarnock fans had all of this to consider recently after the club launched the inaugural Killie Kit Cup.

And after more than 30,000 votes, the competition, devised and run by @KillieKits, provided a winner earlier today.

Conducted via Twitter voting, Killie fans voted for their favourite strips in a group round set-up before the knockout round began.

And in the end, the garish and outlandish designs fell by the wayside and two blue and white striped beauties were left standing.

It came down to either the 1965 league-winning home kit – a classic blue and white long-sleeved jersey; or the 1996/97 Scottish Cup winning home kit – an iconic shirt manufactured by Le Coq Sportif and sponsored by AT Mays.

And the end result was very close.

But the Scottish Cup kit won with 54.5 per cent of the vote earlier today.

Killie Kits tweeted after the result was announced: "30,018 votes in total across 23 matchups. Brilliant stuff. It's been great fun throwing this together.

"Thanks to everyone who voted, @GreggMac88 for taking the idea and running with it and @TrueColoursKits for giving us the idea to steal in the first place."

Liam Mckinlay suggested: "Since it won, there should be a limited number made and sold."

Fion McMurtie added: "Might have to wear it to the first game back."
