Kilmarnock drivers facing roads misery due to roadworks causing delays

Drivers on Bonnyton Road are facing a week of delays and disruption as Scottish Water works across Kilmarnock continue.

Four-way temporary traffic lights are in place each day from 7am to 7pm and set to remain in place until Saturday evening.

Scottish Water has identified that alternative routes and parking are available and warning those using the route to be cautious of congestion.

The works are part of a £5 million infrastructure upgrade across Kilmarnock, which began in August, involving 40 miles of pipework in the town to help improve resilience of water supply.

The projects are being carried out by Scottish Water’s alliance partner Caledonia Water Alliance and are expected to take approximately nine months to complete.

Joanne Craig, customer manager with Caledonia Water Alliance, said: “This upgrade work to the water infrastructure in Kilmarnock will ensure Scottish Water customers in the area can continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water.

“It will also help reduce the chance of pipes bursting.

“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while this improvement work is undertaken.”

Following Bonnyton Road, the work will progress to Western Road, Morven Avenue, Cairns Terrace, Dean Lane, Forest Grove, and Holly Place, before coming to an end on Balmoral Road.
