Kilmarnock Covid breach hammered by SPFL as Motherwell awarded 3-0 win

Kilmarnock have been hammered by an SPFL disciplinary panel today following a Covid breach ahead of their Premiership match with Motherwell in October.

The East Ayrshire's side clash with the Steelmen on Friday, October 2 was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak at Rugby Park.

The matter was referred to the SPFL who opened disciplinary proceedings against Killie with the tribunal's findings revealed this afternoon.

A statement says Killie confirmed "a number of breaches" of the SPFL's COVID-19 regulations.

It went on to say: "These admitted breaches involved the seating arrangements on the coach and at the pre-match meal for an away game.

"In both cases it was admitted by the club that there was a failure to observe physical distancing."

The tribunal has awarded Motherwell a 3-0 victory while a £40,000 fine has been suspended until June 30, 2021 pending any further breaches of Covid protocol.

Kilmarnock FC said they were disappointed with the outcome.

A statement read: "Kilmarnock Football Club is bitterly disappointed with the outcome of the SPFL disciplinary hearing into the circumstances surrounding the postponement of our match with Motherwell.

"Following the hearing, Motherwell have been awarded a 3-0 victory while we have been hit with a £40,000 fine, suspended until June 2021.

"The club is currently discussing our position with our legal representatives and will make further comment in due course."
