Kilmarnock clear the decks as 10 players released day after relegation from Premiership

Kilmarnock have released 10 players today as boss Tommy Wright begins his Rugby Park rebuild.

The East Ayrshire side were relegated from the Premiership last night following a dismal 4-2 aggregate defeat to Dundee.

And Northern Irish gaffer Wright has wasted no time in wielding the axe as he bids to get Killie in shape for the Championship next season.

The Killie board, who addressed the club's relegation earlier, want Wright – who has two years left on his contract with the club – to stay on in the dugout and lead the charge back to the top-flight.

A total of 14 players left the club for the final time today – the 10 not offered new deals and four loanees who have returned to their parent clubs.

Captain Gary Dicker heads the list of departures with Clevid Dikamona, Aaron Tshibola, Youssouf Mulumbu, George Oakley, Diaguely Dabo, Nicke Kabamba, Danny Whitehall, Danny Rogers and Ally Taylor also leaving.

The quartet of loan signings who have gone are Zeno Ibsen Rossi (Bournemouth), Colin Doyle (Hearts), Zech Medley (Arsenal) and Brandon Pierrick (Crystal Palace).

There are five players in the first-team squad already under contract for next season.

They are Aaron McGowan, Brandon Haunstrup, Alan Power, Rory McKenzie and striker Innes Cameron, who put pen to paper on a new two-year deal today.

Star man Kyle Lafferty, Greg Kiltie, Mitch Pinnock, Ross Millen, Calum Waters, Kyle Connell and Tomas Brindley have all been offered fresh terms.

Meanwhile, defender Kirk Broadfoot and winger Chris Burke are, according to the club, considering their next steps in football.

Boss Wright said: "It’s never a nice time when you’re releasing players, and I’d like to thank those leaving for their time at the club.

"In particular, I’d like to thank Gary Dicker. He’s been a wonderful servant and captain for Kilmarnock, someone who I have a lot of time for.

"Difficult decisions have to be made as we look to build for the future."
