Kilmarnock chiefs start interviews as hunt for manager is ramped up

Kilmarnock chiefs have ramped up their search for a new manager and will start interviewing candidates today.

The Kilmarnock Standard understands that the Rugby Park board remain in no rush to appoint a boss but will start to narrow down their options this week.

And former Sunderland gaffer Simon Grayson has emerged as the bookies’ favourite as his price has plummeted to as low as 1/6 with some firms.

Roberto Di Matteo is 5/1 with Paul Clement and Gary Holt next in line at 10/1.

And Rugby Park legend Garry Hay admits it’s going to be difficult to pick the right man for the job.

He said: “I am struggling to pick a candidate, it’s a really difficult one.

“Normally when managers are coming into a club it’s when they’re in a downward spiral. But because we have been doing so well it’s a weird one. Following on from Steve Clarke is going to be very tough for whoever it is.”
