Kilmarnock captain Gary Dicker pays tribute to team bus driver who died from coronavirus

Kilmarnock's captain has paid tribute to his team's bus driver after he recently passed away from coronavirus.

Donald Bagley drove the Rugby Park side to away games for many years before dying from COIVID-19 on April 23.

Now current players and fans have been paying their respects to the 62-year-old.

Club captain Gary Dicker said on Twitter: "Awful news about Donald our bus driver."

Rangers player Jordan Jones, who used to play for Killie, also paid tribute by tweeting: "Rip."

The official Kilmarnock Twitter account also said: "Everyone at the club is deeply saddened to hear of Donald's passing. Our thoughts are with his wife Eileen and the family at this difficult time."

Killie fan Shirley Sloan added: "That is very sad. He was such a lovely man. A few years ago we arrived at Dundee early, even before the ground opened and mum being mum got chatting to Donald.

"He made us hot chocolate from the machine on the bus and let Iona see where JJ sat. RIP Donald."

A fundraising page has been set up for Donald's family with more than £3000 raised so far.

Launched by Parks of Hamilton — Donald's employer — the statement on the page reads: "As you will all know, we have lost a great man on April 23 to COVID-19.

"You will all have your own great memories of Donald Bagley, many on a personal note, most on at least a professional note.

"He worked at Parks of Hamilton on and off for many years and had built up a wealth of experience, particularly abroad.

"Donald was always keen to share this experience to any and all that requested assistance.

"When it came to double manned trips, he was eager to take someone that hadn't been often or at all, passing on vital knowledge.

"Donald was first team driver for Kilmarnock Football Club for many years and had built a good rapport with them, they have passed on their condolences to the family.

"We understand times are tough in the current climate, anything you can give to the cause will matter greatly, however much you can give. We will pass this on to Donald's wife Eileen and his family."
