Kilmarnock Burger King passes food hygiene inspection after previously failing

A Kilmarnock fast food joint has passed a food hygiene inspection after previously failing one a month earlier.

Burger King on Queen’s Drive received an ‘Improvement Required’ notice from East Ayrshire Council on August 26, before having a re-visit, which they passed, last week.

After failing the initial inspection, Paul Todd, EAC’s regulatory services manager, said: “The Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS) gives clear information about how well a food business has fared in its last local authority food hygiene inspection.

“A ‘Pass’ shows the business has met legal requirements and that procedures are in place for providing safe food.

"Where a business has failed to meet these requirements it is issued with an ‘Improvement Required’ Certificate.

"We then work with that business to help it make the required improvements.

"FHIS is run in partnership with Food Standards Scotland and applies to all businesses that supply food to consumers.

“On this occasion, following a routine inspection, Burger King was assessed as being ‘Improvement Required’.

“This was due to a number of minor issues with the structure of the premises. The business is fully aware of the steps to be taken and once complete, a revisit will take place.”

A Burger King spokesman said: “We place the highest importance on hygiene standards.

"Since the initial council visit in August, action has been taken to ensure hygiene standards are met; resulting in a pass after the council’s recent visit.”
