Kilmarnock boss Tommy Wright not heard from Youssouf Mulumbu in a week as he slams AWOL star

Tommy Wright says that Youssouf Mulumbu won't be missed after going AWOL from Kilmarnock.

The midfielder left the club after last weekend’s win over Hamilton Accies and according to Wright he simply emptied his locker and disappeared.

The 34-year-old has been a fringe player but the gaffer won’t be losing sleep over his vanishing act before Killie’s biggest game of the season in the Premiership play-off final second leg against Dundee.

Boss Wright said: “I’m not stunned that he has left. Having worked with him, the type of player he is, nothing stuns me about him.

“The first we knew was when the kit man informed me that his kit had gone last Sunday after the Hamilton game. That seemed weird, strange.

“I then got a text message in the early hours of Monday morning saying that he had to go France and he needed to speak to us. We said for him to come in, we’d have a meeting and discuss it.

“I don’t know where he is. He could be in France, he could be anywhere.

“But listen, since I’ve been here he’s done nowhere near enough to be in the team, so it’s not something I’ve lost any sleep over.

“Putting blue and white hearts on your Twitter account and saying you love the club, that’s all for show.

“I’ve had to deal with a lot since I came to the club. I’m not concerned that he’s left. It says more about him than it does about us.

“Some of them [the players] are happy actually.”

Wright is more concerned with how to turn round the 2-1 lead Dundee arrive with at Rugby Park tomorrow.

He added: “Apart from a couple of games, Thursday night being one of them, we’ve played really well since I’ve come in.

“It would be a great achievement if we can avoid relegation. It’ll be a different type of emotion compared to qualifying for Europe or winning a cup, but I’ll be more than happy if we can stay in the league.

“I think because we got that goal back it lifted the spirit and puts us back in the game. We know we’ve given ourselves a real fighting chance at home.”
