Kilmarnock boss remains positive despite prospect of having no striker for Hearts clash

Angelo Alessio is remaining positive despite facing the prospect of a trip to Tynecastle with no recognised striker.

Osman Sow limped out of Rugby Park on crutches and wearing a moon boot after an ankle injury on Saturday, and Eamonn Brophy missed Saturday’s clash with Ross County as the Italian boss didn’t want to risk the Scottish striker’s tight hamstring.

And with Innes Cameron also sidelined, it could mean that Liam Millar or Dom Thomas are called in to deputise up front away to Hearts on Saturday.

Alessio said: “We are assessing Osman’s injury, we will see how he is closer to the game. I hope to have both him and Eamonn back on Saturday.

“I decided not to play Eamonn on Saturday as it wasn’t worth risking his injury. Now I think it is important to wait two or three days to see how the situation is.

“We will also need to assess other players too because we had a hectic week with three tough games coming so close together.

“After this period, players can pick up knocks and can have problems but we will see how everybody is going into Saturday.”

Killie are getting set to take on Hearts who have picked up just one win in the league this season and drew 0-0 with St Mirren at the weekend.

Alessio said: “Hearts are a good team, I have watched them and they played really well, especially against Hibs. But every game in this league is tough, we have to play well to win these games.

“The most important thing is we need to score, we expect Hearts to play well, but I know my team and we will go there and do our best.”
