Kilmarnock and St Mirren's Covid breach forfeits suspended as clubs set for SFA appeal D-Day

The 3-0 losses imposed on St Mirren and Kilmarnock following Covid-19 protocol breaches have been suspended pending appeal.

The Premiership pair were found to have broken strict virus safety rules at SPFL hearings earlier in December.

Both clubs were ruled to have infringed social distancing rules on buses and at team meals, with Buddies stars also car sharing to and from training.

Killie essentially forfeited three points to Motherwell, as did Saints to Hamilton Accies.

But the duo strongly contested the punishment and took their appeal to the SFA's judicial panel, which will now hear the case on January 14.

An SFA statement on Saturday morning confirmed the verdicts agreed upon by the tribunal had been stood down "pending the outcome of the appeals hearing".

"Update following receipt of appeals from Kilmarnock FC and St Mirren FC:

"In accordance with JPP 14.13, a suspension tribunal has confirmed that the decisions of the sub-committee of the SPFL board sitting as a tribunal (Kilmarnock FC and St Mirren FC) are suspended pending the outcome of the appeals hearing.

"The appeals hearings have been scheduled for Thursday 14 January 2021."

The SPFL will now update the Premiership table in accordance with the suspension.

A statement said: "The SPFL notes the statement by the Scottish FA, confirming the decision of the independent tribunal in respect of preliminary issues in the St Mirren and Kilmarnock appeals.

"The SPFL notes that the appeals will be heard on 14 January 2021 and in accordance with the tribunal’s decision, will update the Premiership table pending the outcome of the appeals process.”
