Stevie Aitken has revealed East Kilbride are in talks with Kilmarnock about taking on a potential loan signing after the sides met in the Premier Sports Cup this afternoon.
The Ayrshire men ran out 2-0 winners at K-Park after second half strikes from new signings Fraser Murray and Jason Naismith proved enough to see off the battling Lowland League side.
But Aitken insists that Killie boss Tommy Wright has been so impressed with the setup at K-Park, it could lead to Kilby landing a Rugby Park player to boost their Lowland League campaign this season.
He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "I had a good chat with Tommy Wright today and he said there might be something coming our way.
"He mentioned there are three or four players they are looking to put out [on loan], but there are other clubs in the mix as well.
"Tommy liked the setup here and the way we conduct ourselves, things like that, so hopefully going forward it's all good with that.
"We've been keeping tabs on things and hopefully on Monday we might be able to announce something in terms of a new player coming in.
"We are looking to get some business done over the weekend for the start of next week.
"With Covid, we've seen four or five players dropping out of clubs so we need to make sure the squad is big enough and strong enough."
East Kilbride can be proud of their efforts against a side that were playing in the top flight last season and Aitken had plenty of positives to take from their first competitive outing since Christmas.
The Lowland League title favourites defended resolutely in the first half and Neil McLaughlin came close to opening the scoring in the first half with a fine strike that forced Killie keeper into a fine save.
Aitken added: "It was tough on the players. It was always going to be when you are playing a team just out of the Premiership.
"The gulf between where we are are and the Premiership is huge.
"But the players worked to the gameplan in the first half to frustrate them, but still cause them problems and I think we did.
"In the second half we could have easily folded but we kept going and big Steven Old was up there trying to get us back in the game at one point.
"There was a lot of positives.
"I thought Cammy Elliot in the first half was excellent, so was Neil McLaughlin.
"I thought his strike was going in and if it did it would have given us something to hold on to.
"It's always hard when it's your first competitive game since December, but we've seen some really good signs from the players we've got and we've still got Lee Miller and Chris Erskine to come back.
"If the players keep giving me what they have, it will give us a right good chance this season."
