Kilmarnock ace expecting tricky tests on home soil against Irish League sides

Kilmarnock new boy Brad Lyons admits his side will be involved in “very tough” games when they face Linfield and Larne this week.

The 24-year-old midfielder joined Killie just over 10-days-ago after helping Morecambe get promoted to League One following a play-off victory against Newport County at Wembley in May whilst on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

The former Coleraine hero joined Kilmarnock after they were relegated to the Scottish Championship and is one of a host of new faces that has joined the club as manager Tommy Wright looks to rebuild ahead of the new season.

Lyons will play his first game in the blue and white of Kilmarnock on Wednesday evening when they take on familiar opponents in Linfield at Windsor Park.

The East Ayrshire club will then face a trip to Inver Park to face Larne at the weekend but Lyons says preparations are going well ahead of the games.

“It has been good and it makes it even better when the weather is really good,” he explains.

“We done a double session on Monday. We trained at half ten in the morning and then we had another session in the afternoon.

“They were two good sessions on a very good pitch, so it was a very good day.

“The two games will be very, very tough. They’re two top teams that are both full-time with really good players and coaches.”

It has been a bit of a whirlwind for the Ballymoney man who will be setting up camp for the foreseeable on Scottish soil.

However, Lyons says it is all a bit surreal to return to Northern Ireland so soon after signing for his new club.

“It’s a bit strange because I travelled over and signed before a week of training then travelled back to Northern Ireland,” explained on Kilmarnock TV.

“When the weather is like this there is no better country really so it is good to be home.”

Kilmarnock kick-off their competitive season on Saturday, July 10 when they face East Kilbride in the Scottish League Cup.
