A fantastic goalkeeping academy in Kilmarnock aimed at youngsters is getting set to launch.
The Killie Trust and KCST are launching their new camp aimed at the future generation of shot-stoppers – and it will be completely free when it launches this week.
It will be open to kids aged between seven and 16 and will attempt to develop a link and partnership between Kilmarnock FC, KFC Academy, Kilmarnock Ladies, the Trust and local grassroots teams.
Head coach Stuart Gilmour said: “We are launching this academy to enrich their skills, to progress them and unlock their potential.
“There has been something missing out there for years, I feel like football is starting to become a middle-class sport with parents feeling obliged to take their kids to football academies and stuff like that, so we are offering this for free.
“It doesn’t matter what kind of background you come from, if you like it you can stay and maybe progress on to youth academies and hopefully the first team – that is the aim at the end of the day!
“Killie have had some amazing goalies over the years, even now we’ve got Zach Hemming and Sam Walker who are fantastic goalies.
“We had Cammy Bell who folk loved, my favourite was Alan McCulloch, he was my hero who got me into football.”
The camp will have masterclasses from pro goalkeepers such as the likes of Hemming and Walker to help the kids’ development.
