Super St Johnstone showed their spirit and desire in equal measure to pull off a quite sublime comeback win against Kilmarnock.
The Perth side’s trip to Ayrshire appeared a write-off when goals from Chris Burke and Aaron Tshibola had the hosts two up at half-time.
But a second half recovery mission was launched and was started by Israeli striker Guy Melamed’s close range finish.
Murray Davidson soon levelled proceedings before, quite incredibly, Ali McCann put Saints ahead with a wonderful strike from distance.
It was an effort right out of the top drawer.
McCann had actually had the first chance of the afternoon. He controlled beautifully just inside the box, manoeuvred onto his left foot and forced a smart stop out of Danny Rogers.
Then, seconds later, a floated cross to the back post looked set to be nodded in by Davidson. But defender Zeno Rossi had other ideas and came to the rescue to head clear.
The positive start was for nothing when, on only four minutes, Burke was allowed, far too easily, to twist and turn inside the box before smashing low across Zander Clark.
While the Kilmarnock winger deserves praise, his goal-scoring mission was made all the simpler by tame Perth efforts to block his progress.
Saints had seen more of the ball early doors and quickly went in search of a leveller. A Wotherspoon strike from distance was marginally off the mark and then Melamed, on the swivel, had his close range attempt crowded out.
A close range attempt on 31 minutes was not kept out. And unfortunately for the Perth side it was home midfielder Tshibola who was wheeling away in celebration after reacting quickest to double the lead.
Burke, who was enjoying his afternoon, attempted to add a third before the break after being slipped in at the angle by George Oakley.
The hit that followed was crisp but Clark stood tall to beat behind for a corner.
Some stern words would be required from Callum Davidson at the interval. An early second half goal was imperative.
And it arrived on 53 minutes.
Tanser’s low delivery from the left found its way into the path of alert Melamed - exactly where you want a striker to be - and he tucked beyond Rogers for 2-1. It was his second goal for the club and very much game on.
Saints’ tails were up and an incredible spell in the game was approaching. The leveller arrived on 69 minutes when determined Davidson bundled over the line.
And then, three minutes later, great hold up play from Melamed carved space for the ball to be shuffled into the path of McCann.
He didn’t think twice about hitting it - and thank goodness. A low, fizzing drive nestled into the bottom corner and suddenly the men from Perth were ahead.
It was remarkable, at one stage, to think the Fair City visitors would be able to pull themselves back into this position. But here we were.
Saints are now seven unbeaten. This was a huge victory.
