Kilmarnock 0 Ross County 0 as Ayrshire side rue missed Osman Sow penalty

Kilmarnock were held to their second 0-0 draw in as many games as they failed to get the better of Ross County .

Osman Sow missed from the penalty spot just after the hour mark and the Ayrshire men couldn't break through to move into the top six of the Premiership .

Kilmarnock looked to spark their first chance after 10 minutes when Stephen O’Donnell attempted to play a through ball down the wing to Rory McKenzie, but the pass ended up out for a goal-kick.

McKenzie was involved again in the 14th minute, this time down the other wing, when he burst into the box, but his squared ball was well cut out by the County defence.

Seconds later Liam Millar had a great chance when he picked up the ball 20 yards from goal and he fired a shot towards Ross Laidlaw’s right-hand bottom corner, but it fell agonisingly wide of the post.

Killie appeared to get away with one in the 20th minute when a shot struck Alex Bruce’s arm in the area, but referee Alan Newlands waved play on.

And Bruce was involved up the other end minutes later with a header that was well saved by Laidlaw.

Osman Sow tried his luck from 25 yards in the 25th minute, but Laidlaw again got down well to save.

McKenzie continued to look bright and in the 28th minute he smashed the post with a fine effort.

Bruce could have opened the scoring just after half-time as Sow headed it down to him, but the defender’s effort was well saved by Laidlaw.

Sow had another chance of his own in the 53rd minute when he won the ball well on the edge of the area before smashing an effort towards goal, again Laidlaw saved.

Just after the hour mark Killie had the perfect opportunity to take the lead when Sow stepped up to take a penalty, but his tame spot-kick was easily saved by Laidlaw.

McKenzie had a good chance in the 86th minute but it was well blocked by the Staggies' defence.

Killie pushed hard for a late winner, but countless chances failed to come off for them.
