TAMPA, Fla. _ The last time the Lightning saw the Capitals, Tampa Bay got shut out and pushed around. Neither of those were an issue on Thursday.
Alex Killorn led the charge on both counts. He netted his first career hat trick as the Lightning won, 6-3.
Tampa Bay made a point from the start. The Lightning took a 3-1 lead in the first period and demonstrated willingness to throw their bodies around.
He scored two goals and made four hits, almost a third of the Lightning's total in the period.
His first goal had a little early St. Patrick's Day luck on it. Killorn threw the puck on net as he spun around at the boards. It deflected off Dmitry Orlov's leg and past Braden Holtby to put the Lightning up 2-0.
Killorn's second goal, late in the period, took some perseverance. Only Nick Jensen was between him and the net. Killorn shoved Jensen and while he was off-balance, put a shot on Holtby. He then followed his rebound to score.
He added an empty-netter to round out the hat trick.
