Killing Eve star Owen McDonnell dishes out the spoilers about Niko's fate after brutal attack

Killing's Eve Owen McDonnell has spilled the beans with a hefty spoiler for the show's third series.

The BBC hit follows Villanelle, a psychopathic assassin obsessed with Sandra Oh's Eve, Niko's wife.

The climactic end to the second series saw the fan favourite locked in a storage locker alongside friend/possible love interest Gemma - as Niko comes to, he sees the corpse of Gemma, asphyxiated with a plastic bag.

Fans have been left scratching their heads as they speculate about what would become of Niko, but Owen didn't think it was too much a spoiler to divulge that his character survived.

Owen's character was left on uncertain terms at the end of the second series (BBC/BBC America)

"Is there anything I can tell you about Killing Eve ?" he said to Metro , "Nope!"

He continued: "Yeah, I think that's fine to say [he's alive], but other than that there's nothing. Other than it's been fun."

He also confirmed that filming for the third series is yet to wrap up.

It also stars Sandra Oh as wife Eve (BBC/Sid Gentle)

"Filming is still ongoing," Owen added, "I don't know where they are this week, but yeah, we're still filming.

"We're filming up until January.  You'll see Niko deal with that situation."

Despite revealing if Niko is alive or dead, Owen's generally very good at keeping things under his hat.

"Nobody really wants the spoilers!" he laughed, "Even my wife won't watch Killing Eve until it's on, and doesn't want to know anything that happens in the scripts.

"We do [get screeners] sometimes, but she won't watch them as she wants to be part of the conversation that goes on at work, or when people watch it together and go, 'Did you see this? Did you see that?'

"She doesn't need to sit there in secret for a month and go, 'Oh, someone else watch it!'"

Owen also reassured fans that they can expect the consistent level of quality seen in the first two series.

"I read the first few scripts," he told, "And was like, 'Wow, this is so good.' They've maintained a high bar."

The first series of Killing Eve was penned by none other than Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Since then, it has gone on to be crowned the Beeb's most streamed show of 2019 - even beating hard-hitting cop drama Line Of Duty.
