Killer who locked car and set mum on fire on suicide watch after suffering horror burns

A man who killed his former partner by locking her in a car and setting her on fire is on suicide watch after suffering horrific burns himself.

Kevin Marks, 47, who is also known as Kevin McFaulds, has been left with a badly scarred face, tiny bits of skin for ears and “clawed” hands after he torched the motor with Ann Drummond trapped inside.

Marks, who was declared unfit to stand trial, is a patient in the State Hospital Carstairs.

It is alleged he parked his car so Ann couldn’t open the door, struck her on the head with a brick, poured petrol over her, locked her in the car and ignited it near Bathgate, West Lothian, on June 25, 2019.

The 47-year-old mum died two days later at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary.

Sources close to Marks said: “He has horrendous injuries. He tried to kill himself as well but instead has been left with a permanent reminder of what happened.”

A hospital source said Marks is on suicide watch, adding: “He’s as quiet as a mouse and hasn’t given the staff any problems. He has serious mental health issues.”

Marks and Ann are believed to have been in a relationship but this is said to have ended shortly before her death.

The couple ran a dog-walking business in Livingston. Ann was a dog-lover and was close to her four children.

A pal, who asked not to be named, said: “Ann was a lovely, kind woman. She didn’t deserve to die the way she did. It’s been terrible for her children.

“He deserves to rot in hell.”

Instead of Marks being tried, an examination of facts will be held at the High Court in Edinburgh on August 24.
