A vicious pit bull that mauled its owner to death has received several adoption offers.
The dog killed its 82-year-old owner on July 12, but many have leapt to the animal's defence and claimed it was a freak accident.
The incident happened in Kaiserbagh, India, with the dog currently under a 14-day observation period.
Reports say that the elderly owner, Sushila Tripathi, a retired teacher, lived at home with her 25-year-old son and two dogs, a pit bull and labrador.
She was home alone during the incident and was found severely injured by her son after he returned home from the gym.
As many as eight people, plus a a non-government organisation, have approached the local governing body and asked to adopt the pet, saying the dog should not be blamed for the attack.

"We have received several offers from across the country for dog adoption, said the chief veterinary officer at the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), Abhinav Verma.
"We have put it under 14-day observation and will make a final decision after that."
Amit Jani, 39, is one of the hopeful adoption applicants and told Times of India : "When I heard about the Kaiserbagh incident, I was shocked but with people labelling the dog as vicious, I decided to adopt it.
"I already have a pit bull and it never shows any aggression. I think such an incident can happen with any breeder if proper care is not taken."
59-year-old Sujaat Suvarna agreed, adding: "It was an unfortunate incident, but for that speechless animal cannot be blamed alone."

Meanwhile, in the US earlier this month, a woman was mauled to death by two pit bulls just days after her mum warned her to stop petsitting the dogs,
Trena Peed, 46, was heard crying out for help after letting the two dogs outside her home in Greensboro, North Carolina.
One neighbour told a 911 call handler that it was dark and "all they could hear was yelling" while the dogs attacked her, reported WGHP.
Trena's mother, Helena Harris, had apparently expressed concerns about the pit bulls two days previously.
