Killer of Hobart mum Jodi Eaton loses appeal for reduced sentence

Police at the site where Jodi Eaton's body was found in 2014.

A man imprisoned for the 2014 murder of a Hobart mum fails in his appeal to have his life sentence reduced, with a court of appeal ruling the sentence was necessary to protect other women.

The full bench of Tasmania's court of appeal today unanimously rejected a bid by Darren Michael Dobson.

Dobson, 40, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life with a non-parole period of 15 years for strangling Jodi Eaton, 28, in her Bridgewater home in February 2014.

Dobson met Ms Eaton at a party there only a few hours before.

Ms Eaton's body was found wrapped in a plastic pool liner and buried at a Southern Highlands property almost three weeks later.

Maxwell Douglas Morrison, the owner of the property, was later imprisoned for failing to report her killing and making a false statement to police.

During the original trial the court heard Dobson was a repeat domestic violence perpetrator and was on bail and a suspended sentence for other attacks on women when he killed Ms Eaton.

His lawyer appealed the sentence arguing it was manifestly excessive.

But this morning the court of appeal rejected his appeal - saying the life sentence was necessary to protect other women.
