KHON KAEN: A man charged with murdering his disabled neigbhour confessed to having taken alcohol and speed before the pair quarrelled, police said on Saturday.

Waree Sithahong, 32, was taken for a crime re-enactment at the victim’s house in Non Ngiew village of Ban Phai district on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect was apprehended shortly after a local resident found the body of Wichai Lawongsa, a 46-year-old man who had lost both legs, on Saturday morning.

Waree told police that he had driven his motorcycle to Wichai’s house on Friday night. He said the two of them drank alcohol and each took half a speed pill. They later got involved in a quarrel that got physical.

As Wichai tried to leave his room to get help, the suspect said he used a wooden baton to beat him several times until he was unconscious. He then used a blanket to cover the body and fled on his motorcycle, according to police. He insisted he had no intention of killing his neighbour.

Yun Lawongsa, 70, mother of the victim, thanked police for making a speedy arrest. She said she had no personal grudge against the suspect but wanted him to face the consequences for what he had done.

Pol Col Chamras Chandaeng, chief of the Ban Phai police, said Waree had been charged with murder and taking illicit drugs. He is in police custody at the station pending further legal action.
