Killer of children's author Helen Bailey charged with murder of first wife

The man who killed his fiance and children’s author Helen Bailey has appeared in court charged with the murder of his first wife, a decade after her death.

Ian Stewart, 59, appeared before St Albans Crown Court on Monday charged with the murder of Diane Stewart, Hertfordshire Police said.

The 47-year-old died on June 25, 2010 at their home in Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, the force said.

A re-investigation into her death began after Stewart was convicted in 2017 of the murder of his fiance Helen Bailey at their home in Royston, Hertfordshire in 2016.
