Killer model Caroline Igoe in fresh freedom bid as she denies shooting boyfriend

Supporters of killer model Caroline Igoe say she is making a fresh bid to be released halfway through her sentence after she was allowed to leave prison to see family.

The mum of four is serving a minimum of 20 years for killing her boyfriend Martyn Barclay in 2009.

Her family have long protested her innocence, saying she was jailed on “purely circumstantial” evidence.

Now an online petition says Igoe wants her case reviewed so she can “walk free”.

It comes as a photo emerged of the once-aspiring model, 42, posing for a selfie during a hospital visit to see her daughter, with jail sources saying the killer is being given “special treatment”.

The Free Caroline Igoe petiton at Change.org states: “Caroline has maintained her innocence for a decade now and will continue to fight to clear her name and get the freedom she deserves.

“She does not just want her freedom and to just walk free and away from this she wants her case looked into properly so she can clear her name as a ‘murderer’, which she is not.”

Igoe shot boyfriend Martyn, 26, in the head with his own handgun near the home they shared with her family in Inch, Edinburgh, in January 2009.

Prosecutor Alex Prentice QC said Martyn’s death was an “act of cold-blooded murder executed with a chilling military precision”.

Igoe has made several bids for release and the current petition has so far only attracted a handful of signatures.

It was launched after a picture posted by a relative on Facebook revealed Igoe had been allowed out of Edinburgh’s Saughton prison in recent months for a hospital visit to see her daughter.

A jail source said: “It’s shocking a convicted killer was let out to visit her daughter. She wasn’t even handcuffed during the visit.

“Fellow lags believe Igoe is being given special treatment”

The Scottish Prison Service considers each application for day release on a case-by-base basis and full risk assessments are conducted.

A spokesman said: “We do not comment on individual prisoners.”
