These are the latest ECHO headlines at lunchtime.

Sefton Park resident is eating ducklings whole

People enjoying a leisurely stroll in Sefton Park have spotted a "duckling killer" heron on the loose.

The bird was seen scooping up ducklings in its beak and eating them - much to the horror of people in the park. The ECHO went down to the park this week to try and catch the killer bird on camera.

A woman, who did not want to be named, said: "Every time I see the heron, whether in Sefton or Princes Park, I'm torn between awe at what a stunning, majestic bird it is and horror that it's a duckling killer. It's just the circle of life, I suppose."

Overturned scrap metal lorry sheds its load

There are still scenes of traffic chaos after a scrap metal lorry overturned and shed its load near the Rocket flyover early this morning (Saturday).

The driver escaped with cuts and bruises after the incident at around 5.20am today. The overturned vehicle left the roadway strewn with scrap metal and other waste and led to the M62 being closed in both directions between J4 (for The Rocket) and J5 (for Huyton).

Emergency services are in attendance at the scene and warned that recovering the vehicle and clearing up the mess was likely to be "a protracted operation."
