Killarney betting tips: Peter O'Hehir's selections for Thursday's horse racing action

With ground conditions in his favour, Davids Charm should make a bold bid to land the €50,000 K.W.D. Kingdom Gold Cup in Killarney.

Trained by John Joe Walsh, this tough and versatile eight- year-old hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck in recent outings but has rock-solid claims in today’s feature, when he’ll be partnered by Chris hayes.

Winner of a handicap hurdle at the 2017 Galway festival (off a mark of 116), he has progressed through the ranks over hurdles and ran a cracker off 143 in the recent Guinness Galway hurdle won by Tudor City. hampered at half-way in the Ballybrit showpiece, he stayed on late to finish fourth beaten four and a half lengths.

Prior to that, Davids Charm proved an unlucky loser when denied a clear run in a Curragh handicap, in which he finished a close third behind Shakespear’s Galley and one of today’s rivals Legal Spin.

Without a win since landing a flat maiden in Gowran Park last September, Davids Charm is overdue a change of luck and, given a slice of luck in running, should reward each-way support here.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Blenheim Place has rocketed up the ratings since winning a Navan handicap off 76 back in April to a current mark of 105 and sets the standard in the Killarney Racegoers Club Race, in which he’ll be ridden by title-chasing Donnacha O’Brien.

This Galileo colt has performed creditably in Group company, finishing second to Broome in the Derrinstown Stud Derby trial at Leopardstown back in May and running creditably behind the progressive Buckhurst at both the Curragh and Leopardstown.

The Ballydoyle colt is the percentage call here, despite the presence of Dermot Weld’s Tankerville, winner of his only juvenile start.

Mark Walsh, out of action since a leg break in early May, returns today and can make an impact on Movewiththetimes in the Killarney Oaks hotel Beginners Chase. This J P McManus-owned gelding boasts a mark of 135 and should be very tough to beat here.
