Kill The Bill Leeds next protest date confirmed as organisers issue rallying cry

'We will continue to speak about these issues until they are no more', say the organisers behind the Kill The Bill protests in Leeds.

The group which strongly opposes the controversial Police, Sentencing, and Courts Bill is hosting an event called Leeds Speaks on Sunday, April 18, at Woodhouse Moor, Hyde Park.

Dozens of Kill The Bill organisations have formed across the country including Bristol, Sheffield, and Manchester, calling for the bill to be quashed as critics see it as a threat to the freedom of expression and the right to protest.

The bill details more than 300 pages of draft legislation, including a section on public order and protests, and will allow police to take a more proactive approach in managing protests that are causing serious disruption.

Earlier this month, hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Leeds city centre to hold a peaceful demonstration against the bill.

However, this time they have planned an event that will" allow" people to talk about the issues which matter to them.

"We won't be silenced" (Kill The Bill Leeds)

A poster by the group reads: “Join the event to talk with others about issues that matter to you.

“Inclusive and respectful, socially distanced listening circles.

“Be part of a democratic campaign because your voice holds power.”

Writing on a Facebook post, Kill the Bill Leeds organisers said: “We had some fantastic speakers at the last event, who spoke out against the horrors of the new policing bill. We will continue to talk about these issues until they are no more.

“Join us at the next event, Leeds Speaks, Sunday 18th 2-4pm in Hyde Park.”
