Kilkenny GAA confirm a club player has tested positive for coronavirus

A club GAA player has tested positive for coronavirus.

Kilkenny GAA have confirmed to the Irish Mirror that an unnamed player has contracted the virus after rumours circulated of an outbreak at a local club.

A spokesperson for the county board said that there are no current indications that the case will affect their return schedule.

All GAA & HSE guidelines and protocols have been followed in relation to this case.

The spokesperson said they will not be naming the player as it is a private medical matter for the individual.

The Kilkenny senior hurling championship is due to kick off on the weekend of July 26, with today marking the first day that club teams could return to contact training.

Competitive club games can kick off from July 17, while an inter-county schedule isn't in the works until late October.
