Kildare mum on walk with kids left 'rattled' after teen shouts racist abuse

A Kildare mum was left distressed after being racially abused by a young group of lads while being out on a walk with her children.

The woman passed by a group of lads at a car park in Celbridge when one of the teens shouted, "Chinese chicken fillet roll," at her and her two young kids.

She said the horrible incident left her "rattled" and she was "so upset that it happened in front of my children".

She added that this was not an isolated incident and other members of her family had been subjected to vile racial abuse on separate occasions.

Speaking on a local Celbridge Facebook page she said: "So saddened that I have to post about this again after a similar incident with my sister and parents a few months back.

"This afternoon, I was out for a walk with my two young children and as I passed by a group of young lads at a car park, beside the playground, one of them felt the need to shout 'Chinese chicken fillet roll' at us.

"I suspect he did not think I would double back and ask him to repeat what he said to my face. Absolutely disgusted that he thought this would be funny and he was obviously out to impress his mates."

She continued: "Seriously, I would have thought this ‘new’ generation are educated enough to know this type of behaviour is not socially acceptable. I have to admit I was rather rattled by this incident and so upset that it happened in front of my children.

"What a horrible example to be setting for them. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident and for it to happen to me and other members of my family on a separate occasion is totally unacceptable."

Locals were shocked to hear the "disgraceful" incident with one person saying: "I'm so sorry that this happened to you. It's an absolute disgrace. There's no reason for racism period."

A second person added: "Disgraceful! Report them to the Garda, fair play to you for walking back and confronting him honestly in this day and age you'd think he'd have more sense."

Another person said: "I’m so sorry you and your children were subjected to this type of ignorance."
