Kildare GAA to restart club action on August 24 after local lockdown ends

Kildare have followed the lead of Offaly and Laois by planning to restart club action immediately from Monday week.

The Government restrictions in the three counties are due to expire on Sunday, August 23 and, like Offaly and Laois, Kildare have scheduled club Championship matches for the following day.

Among the games that fell by the wayside in Kildare last weekend were four senior hurling ties and it’s with hurling that they resume with senior and intermediate games down for decision on that particular evening.

As they’ve only lost one weekend of football action due to the current restrictions, they have managed to rejig the fixtures sufficiently to allow the senior football final to be played on October 4, just a week later than initially planned, while the hurling final has also been pushed back a week to October 11.

Kildare are due to resume their Allianz Football League Division Two campaign on the weekend of October 17/18 against Cavan as they battle to avoid relegation, with their final League game against Westmeath the following weekend.

They have been paired against the winners of Offaly-Carlow in the Leinster quarter-final on the weekend of November 7/8.

Kildare’s hurlers are scheduled to play Offaly in the Christy Ring Cup quarter-final on October 24/25.
