Kilbryde Hospice receives a cash boost from Scotmid fund

Kilbryde Hospice has received a cash boost thanks to Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect award scheme.

The £8500 grant comes after the vital service was saved following a massive fundraising campaign – backed by the East Kilbride News – saw an overwhelming response from the community.

The future of the £4m palliative care centre at Hairmyres Hospital was in doubt after it revealed losses of £300,000 since the start of lockdown.

The latest boost comes after the hospice was shortlisted as one of three causes and charities in the West of Scotland to receive financial support from an £84,000 pot.

Gordon McHugh, CEO at Kilbryde Hospice said: “We cannot thank Scotmid enough for awarding us this grant to assist us in supporting the patients and the families who we are here for.”

Since Scotmid’s Community Connect launched in 2017, more than £385,000 has been awarded to 39 good causes, enabling key projects to come to life in local areas.

Andy Simm, chairman of the west regional committee of Scotmid, said: “The pandemic has created numerous challenges for communities to overcome and adapt to. Community Connect is one of the main ways we can support the communities that we serve and we are delighted to provide Kilbride Hospice with funding as it continues to provide vital support to the community.”
