Kilbarchan AAC strike gold as relay team seal new Scottish record at Relay Championships

Kilbarchan AAC’s top talents put in a historic performance to reach the top of the podium at the Emirates.

Senior titles were on the line in Glasgow in the 4x200m Scottish Indoor Relay Championships last weekend.

In the men’s final, Kilbarchan AAC came up with an excellent performance to take gold in what was a new Scottish club record for the event at 1:27.20.

That was down to the impressive efforts of the quartet of Kade Thomas, Stephen Johnston, Stephen Dunlop and Krishawn Aiken on the anchor leg.

VP-Glasgow took the silver medals in 1:28.46, with Pitreavie AAC were third in 1:31.20.

Elsewhere on the track it was a tiring day for the Kilbarchan trio of Howard Bell, Matthew Chandler and Eden Duff in the heptathlon.

The eight event competition is staged over two days, with a strong total of 5,269 points enough to secure the Scottish title for Bell.

He was closely followed by Chandler and Duff in second and third place respectively.

A club spokesperson said: “These results certainly put Kilbarchan on the map, especially with Andrew Murphy still working his way back to fitness and Scott Connal now concentrating on sprint hurdles.”

Attention this weekend turns to the senior and age group Indoor Championships at the Emirates.

The Renfrewshire Road Race Championships at Battery Park are also set to take place in Greenock.
